What makes a useful clinical conversation?

Ask for the reason behind the plan. A clear answer connects your health to a named option.

Why this medicine for this reason?

What are we treating?

Ask the clinician to name the health goal in plain words and explain how progress will be judged.

What else could fit?

Ask what options were considered, including no medicine or a different type of care.

What about my health could change your advice?

Ask which parts of your history, medicines or test results matter most.

Which health details should you tell the clinician?

The medicine labels list health details a clinician should ask about before prescribing: thyroid cancer in your family, any earlier pancreas or gallbladder problems, serious stomach trouble, pregnancy plans, other diabetes medicines, eye disease caused by diabetes and any surgery coming up.

Some of these can rule the medicine out; others mean it needs extra care. Tell the clinician about each one and ask which applies to you.

  • Bring a current medicine and supplement list.
  • Mention past bad reactions and current symptoms.
  • Ask how to reach the care team if a new problem starts.
